Being a frontline healthcare provider is a difficult job at the best of times. You work long hours in stressful environments and with little thanks. To make things worse, 2020 has seen an unprecedented pandemic in Covid-19 which has resulted in them having to risk their health ensuring the healthcare needs of our country are met.
In this week’s blog, we thought we would show our appreciation for these workers by shining a light on the impact they are having. No organisation better embodies the amazing attitude of our healthcare professionals than the Sunny Street crew who operate Queensland’s first mobile GP.
Sunny Street is the brainchild of Dr Nova Evans and Sonia Goodwin who were inspired to find a way to reach those most vulnerable in their community. They resigned from the public healthcare system together and officially launched Sunny Street in July 2018.
They now focus on those experiencing homelessness after they were identified as being the most at risk of falling through the cracks of the mainstream medical system. Sunny Street offers a holistic approach to health and support through a variety of services such as mental health plans, general health assessments and conversations and empowerment.
What makes Sunny Street even more special is their bubbly personality and positive outlook on life. They treat every patient with a warm demeanour which can be just as soothing as the actual treatment. Take a look at this video and you’ll see how wonderfully quirky they are!
They have been working tirelessly through the pandemic running outreach clinics and screening community members for Covid-19. We understand how tough this must be for them mentally and wanted to give them a little positive boost.
Recently, we donated some chocolate to thank them for all the great work they’ve been doing. This doesn’t come close to what they deserve for the sacrifices they have made but it was a pleasure to meet them and hopefully make their day a little brighter.
We can’t speak highly enough about the impact Sunny Street are having. Find them on Facebook or their website if you would like to know more about their story or give them some encouragement! We would also love to see you thank any friends or family members that you have working in the health industry for the incredible work they are doing!
